Ana Rieper was born in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil, in 1975. She is a documentary filmmaker, with a master degree on Development and Environment. She graduated in Geography at the Fluminense Federal University, where she also studied Cinema for two years.
Ana has been working with audiovisual since 1998, date of her first documentary, “Saara”, about the immigrants from different parts of the world, who settled in downtown Rio de Janeiro, forming a community known as Saara. The film won many awards and was followed by other documentaries and anthropological videos, such as “Agradeço a Deus, a Meu Pai e ao Rio São Francisco”, “Xingó”, “Do Quintal da Nossa Casa à Baía de Guanabara” and “On the Stream”, about the population living on the banks of the São Francisco River.
Her short film “Veluda” won the Special Award in Mostra do Filme Livre 2006 and the short documentary “Another Land”, on the slum removal process in the city of Rio de Janeiro won the Special Award in the Pierre Verger Prize.
